Post Views: 64 PUBLIC DISCLAIMER AND REPUDIATIONIssued by:Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders’ Council, Lagos Chapter Date: 16th May, 2026 Subject: Disclaimer Against Chief Frederick N. Nwajagu’s Purported Coronation as “Ezendigbo Lagos State / Eze Gburugburu II” Scheduled for 17th May, 2026 TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THE IGBO COMMUNITY IN LAGOS, AND ALL CONCERNED AUTHORITIES The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders’ Council, Lagos Chapter, hereby issues this disclaimer to address a public invitation circulated by Chief Frederick N. Nwajagu, announcing a purported coronation ceremony scheduled for 17th May, 2026, wherein he claims to be installed as the Ezendigbo Lagos State and Eze Gburugburu II. 1. Status of the ClaimFor the avoidance of doubt, Chief Frederick N. Nwajagu has not been coronated and holds no recognized traditional title as Ezendigbo Lagos State or Eze Gburugburu II. The invitation is premature, misleading, and constitutes an attempt to confer upon himself a title that has no validity under Igbo customary and organizational structure. 2. Position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Traditional Titles Outside IgbolandThe National Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, in consultation with the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, has formally and irrevocably abolished the institution of “Ezeship” and all similar traditional titles outside Igboland. This resolution is binding on every Igbo person, irrespective of location, association, or factional affiliation. It was issued to preserve the dignity of traditional institutions, prevent fragmentation of Igbo unity, and eliminate the proliferation of self-styled traditional rulers that have caused division and ridicule. 3. Binding Nature of the DirectiveThis directive applies to all Igbo sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora. No individual or group has the authority to contravene or disregard it. Any person who proceeds to assume, parade, or organize ceremonies around such a title does so in direct violation of the collective decision of Igbo leadership. 4. Position of the Lagos Elders’ CouncilThe Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders’ Council, Lagos Chapter, hereby states categorically that we dissociate ourselves entirely from Chief Frederick N. Nwajagu and the purported coronation scheduled for 17th May, 2026. The era of impunity, self-aggrandizement, and the so-called “days of madness” is over. As an Igbo man, Chief Nwajagu, like every other Igbo person, is bound by the legitimate and lawful directives of Igbo leadership under the apex socio-cultural umbrella of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. 5. Public NoticeThe general public, Igbo residents in Lagos, government agencies, and all stakeholders are hereby advised to disregard the invitation and refrain from attending or participating in the said event. Any person who chooses to participate in or give credence to such a ceremony does so at their own risk. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders’ Council, Lagos Chapter, shall not be held responsible for any consequences arising therefrom. 6. Call to OrderWe call on Chief Frederick N. Nwajagu to immediately withdraw the invitation and desist from any further action that contravenes the resolutions of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the South East Traditional Rulers Council. Failure to comply will compel the Council to take further administrative and legal steps to protect the integrity and unity of Ndigbo in Lagos.
