LAGOS — Thousands of members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Chapter are expected to converge on the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, for the third edition of the organisation’s Monthly General Assembly Meeting.

The meeting, which is being hosted by the Ojo Zone comprising Ojo Local Government Area (LGA), Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Iba LCDA, is part of the new grassroots-oriented strategy of the Chief Leonard Okafor-led executive to reconnect the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation with its members across Lagos State.

The August assembly follows the successful hosting of the previous editions by the Alimosho and Oshodi zones in July and June respectively, which attracted large numbers of members and stakeholders.

The rotational hosting of the monthly General Assembly, introduced by the present leadership, is designed to decentralise the activities of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos and bring the organisation closer to the grassroots.

Under the initiative, Igbos resident in different parts of Lagos are being given greater opportunity to participate actively in the affairs of the organisation, contribute to discussions on issues affecting the Igbo community and become better informed about programmes aimed at advancing their socio-economic interests and overall welfare.

In a press statement received by OhanaezeLagosNews , the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Chapter, High Chief Leonard Okafor, popularly known as Oba Ojoto, called on Igbos across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs of Lagos State to attend the meeting.

Chief Okafor specifically urged chairmen, community leaders, women, youths, stakeholders, traders, business groups, and other members of the Igbo community to make themselves available for the important gathering.

The meeting is scheduled to commence at 1:00 p.m., with a number of issues concerning the organisation and the Igbo community expected to dominate deliberations.

According to the statement, the agenda will include recent developments within Ohanaeze, updates from the various LGAs and LCDAs, insurance and welfare matters, peace and unity within the organisation, progress recorded by Ohanaeze Lagos, as well as the organisation’s financial report, among other issues.

Among the dignitaries expected at the event are the President and chief host, High Chief Leonard Okafor; Nze Godwin Egboka, Deputy President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos; Chief Solomon Aguene, President Emeritus; Chief Sunday Ossai, President Emeritus; Comrade Mike Orji, Secretary; and Chief Sunday Udeh, President-General, Igbo Speaking Community.

Others expected include Chief Chris Ekeocha, Vice President (Imo); Chief Chucks Smith, Vice President (Delta); Elder Adolphus Anum, Vice President (Rivers); Dr Chucks Nwosu, Vice President (Abia); Onyendu Okpotemba, Onyendu Ndigbo, Ikeja; Chief (Princess) Rosemary Igweh, Women Leader, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos; and Chief Emma Ubah, among other prominent Igbo leaders and stakeholders.

The royal hosts for the gathering include Onyisi Sir Ikenna Onuegbu, Onyendu Ndigbo, Ojo LGA; Onyisi Dr Omenife Olikaenyi, Onyendu Ndigbo, Oto-Awori LCDA; Onyisi Amb. Timothy Nwanoro, Onyendu Ndigbo, Oto-Awori; Onyisi Kenneth Aguedo, Onyendu Ndigbo, Imude-Shibiri; Onyisi Tochukwu Anosike, Onyendu Ndigbo, Ojo Central; and Onyisi Chukwuemeka Onuoha, Onyendu Ndigbo, Iba and Igboleri, as well as other notable royal fathers and Ndi-ndu Ndigbo across Lagos State.

The host chairmen are Chief Joseph Ajoku, Ohanaeze Ojo LGA; Chief Anderson Ezeanyaeche, Ohanaeze Iba LCDA; and Chief Chimezie Duruchima, Ohanaeze Oto-Awori LCDA.

Also expected at the assembly are prominent Igbo sons and daughters from various walks of life, including market leaders, business owners, community leaders and friends of Ohanaeze Ndigbo from within and outside Lagos State.

The monthly General Assembly is increasingly becoming a major platform for grassroots engagement, consultation and mobilisation among Igbos in Lagos, with the leadership seeking to strengthen unity, participation and collective action across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs of the state.
