Passengers Bicker As Virgin Atlantic Aburts Lagos – London Flight, No Explanation Given To The Public

Passengers who booked on Virgin Atlantic’s Lagos-London flight have been left stranded and frustrated after the airline abruptly cancelled its scheduled morning flight from Lagos on Tuesday.

The affected flight, Virgin Atlantic VS412, was scheduled to depart from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at about 9am.

However, passengers who arrived at the airport early enough to check in for the flight were reportedly shocked when they were informed through a public announcement that the flight had been cancelled.

No immediate reason was given for the cancellation, leaving passengers uncertain about when they would be able to continue their journeys or what arrangements would be made for their accommodation, luggage and onward travel.

The sudden cancellation has reportedly caused distress among passengers, particularly those who travelled from outside Lagos to catch the London-bound flight.

One of the affected passengers, who identified himself as Tony Williams, not his real name, said he was confused and uncertain about his next move following the cancellation.

“Honestly, I am confused right now. I cannot put my thoughts together. We’ve just been informed that the flight is cancelled without giving any reason.

“I don’t know whether to travel back to Benin or remain in Lagos. Who knows when the flight is going to be rescheduled? And if I stay back, where exactly will I stay and at whose expense?” he lamented.

Another female passenger, who is based in Lagos, said she arrived at the airport as early as 6am, only to be confronted with the unexpected cancellation.

Expressing her frustration, she questioned the manner in which passengers were informed about the development.

“Who does that? Why should Virgin Atlantic take its passengers for granted? I was dropped off at the airport this morning by my husband on his way to his office on Victoria Island.

“How do I get my luggage back home and when exactly will the flight be rescheduled?” she queried.

The cancellation has raised concerns among the affected passengers, many of whom may have connecting flights, business engagements and other time-sensitive commitments in the United Kingdom.

As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear when the affected passengers would be rebooked or whether the airline had made alternative travel arrangements for them.

Efforts to reach Virgin Atlantic for an explanation on the abrupt cancellation and to ascertain when the Lagos-London service would resume proved unsuccessful as calls and other attempts to obtain the airline’s response were not immediately successful.

Passengers are now awaiting further communication from the airline on the reason for the cancellation, the rescheduling of the flight and arrangements for those affected.
